  1. I sent the letter to the shooter (posted about it) almost a week ago. It will take 3 days or so to get to California and then the prison will open it and do whatever they do before it gets to him. I don't know how long it will take, but I keep checking my mailbox with disappointment. I guess I am afraid of never getting that amends letter. Feeling oddly nervous for some reason.

I can understand you feeling nervous and wanting the amends letter, worrying about whether you will ever get it. I hope that you get it, and you feel some peace. You deserve to feel peace. I'm sitting with you and offering warm hugs, if you'd like. :throb:  :throb:

Hopefully he will understand this is something you need and truly gives you the apology and whatever else goes in an amends letter. I hope it is honest and truthful and gives you a bit of peace. You so deserve it.

It is scary to ask for what we want or need after getting so much that we do NOT want or need.  Breathe through it, acknowledge the grit and determination of opening the topic.  The question is no longer whether you will survive and thrive—you’re just providing this guy with a(nother) chance to choose whether he is.  What he chooses is neither a threat to you nor you responsibility to carry.
