Hi I'm Jayde, I'm 16 and am a survivor of childhood abuse. Recently when I think about the things that happened I no longer have feelings towards it. I used to feel as if I was going to burst at the seams but now there's nothing there. I just wanted to know if this was normal or if anybody has or had these feelings about their past

Hello @TheatreKidJayde

I am Wanna, welcome to After Silence! :flowers:

Sometimes, our mind decides to "store" certain emotions and reactions until it acknowledges a safe place to start or proceed the processing. A community can help you to find such a place, you are most welcomed to vent here and receive support.

I am deeply and truly sorry for your trauma. You own your story, and I encourage you to keep using your words. We have a forum on this site for teenagers and young adults if you'd like to check it out.

Hope to see you around! You are being brave for sharing. :notalone:  :youcanheal:

All best

- Wanna ☀️

Hi @TheatreKidJayde

Welcome to AS. I'm sorry for the trauma that brought you here, but I'm glad you found the site and decided to join. This is a welcoming and supportive community and we are all here to help each other heal. It sounds like the feelings you are experiencing are normal. While there is no right way to process trauma, it is common for survivors to feel extra emotional sometimes and numb other times. Sometimes our emotions can just get to be so much, that the brain just tries to shut them down and not process any of them. By joining this site, you are taking steps toward healing and overtime you will feel more control over your emotions. You are welcome to come to this site and post and share whenever you need support. We are all here for you. Wishing you the best.

Hi Jayde,

Welcome to AfterSilence. I am very sorry for what you experienced during childhood. This was very wrong and undeserved. You have found a supportive site tho, with many supportive and understanding members. You are not alone.

As the others have mentioned, it is not uncommon to go thru a variety of reactions, as it pertains to abuse. Sometimes you are numb and sometimes triggered. Sometimes just somewhere in between. These are all legitimate reactions and feelings. It can be confusing at times and this is normal too. Even tho you are in what seems to be a numb phase, it is good to reach out to others who understand.

Take your time and look around. I wish you the very best as you move down this path we call healing.
