My name is Laura and I am a incest survivor. I have a daredevil 2yr old and a husband. My brother abused me from age 8-10. I held it in for 17yrs...I have been diagnosed with PTSD,Mood depressive disorder,Intermit explosive disorder. I am in therapy for god knows how long. On meds of course. I write in my journal,use the :punch: bag downstairs to let it out. My parents have no contact with my brother or my sister(she believed him)...I am going through marriage councling since its affecting our marriage...How long does the healing have to go on?

Its bittersweet to have new members. The bitter part is of course, the fact you had to endure the abuse, the sweetness is having someone to heal with. Know that you've got so much support here...We'll always be here!!

I'm so glad you're in therapy and are taking your anger out on the bag. That's a GREAT idea!! Thanks!!

Who knows how long it will take us all to heal? Everyone is different. Just hold on tight to what you gain from therapy and apply it to your everyday life. Stay commited to your recovery.

I have seen so many added to this list since I joined, and that just proves that none of us are alone. I think that healing is a lifelong process, but it gets better as we continue in it, and we get better. While I am sorry that we all had to endure what we did to bring us to this point, As I read about the people that are here, I know that we are super special for having survived, and are continuing to strive to overcome, and heal. Remember this: "We shall know the truth, and the truth will make us free."
