Hi everyone (new here)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I am LHazel and I am so happy to have found this space. I am currently in EMDR processing all that has happened to me and wanted extra community support as well. What we have gone through can feel very isolating and it’s hard to talk about with loved ones who don’t get it.

A little about myself: I’m a former nurse who is now a yoga instructor and Reiki practitioner. I’m training to be a yoga therapist and hope to open my own business when I’m finished.

I love music, yoga (obvs haha!), dancing, reading, writing, and spending time in nature, especially by the water. I love spending time with my little family of 3 and my friends going out to eat and exploring fun places in our neighborhood.

I’m hoping to connect with others and provide support as well. Thank you so much for having me! :)

Hi Lhazel and welcome.

I am very sorry for the reasons why you are here, but glad you decided to reach out. The community is filled with supportive and understanding people. You are not alone.

It sounds as if you have wonderful goals, which I believe is always helpful to have as you navigate the road of healing. Having hobbies are wonderful, too! I find many survivors have creative outlets, just as you have. With all this, finding a community that understands is still a great thing too. You are right that it can be difficult to find someone who understands. We are thankful they haven't dealt with trauma, but it can be a bit awkward, too, to relate and share. So, I am very glad you found us.

I encourage you to look around and jump in where you feel comfortable. We are here with you.

Wishing you the best on your continuing journey in healing.

Mary

Hi LHazel and welcome to our community, I am Wanna :flowers:

It's good that you've found us, and I sincerely hope that this platform will offer you that extra support you need and deserve. Please know, that here at After Silence, your voice matters. We believe you, and you have nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. Here, we put the guilt where it belongs - on the violator. With that said, this community is composed by many kind and compassionate souls. Us survivors tend to understand each other, and I truly believe every survivor has something to offer.

Take your pace here, you decide what to share, and when. I myself am very into cardio, hiking and I love reading with a side of hot tea. :tea: I have read a lot of Julia Quinn and Phillipa Gregory. Perhaps you have some book tips?

Please let me know if I can be at any help, or offer you some company. I am only one PM away. Please do not hesitate to reach out, us staff are here for you!

So long,

Wanna :sun2:

Dear lhazel

Welcome to After Silence!!

I'm sorry for what you have been through. I find it is easier to talk on forums then out loud. Being here has helped me so much, even from the first time I ever posted. It is still helping me - I have so much support here and I know you will, as well. Here at AS, we are like a big family and our members are kind and non-judgemental.

I am sending you lots of safe hugs!

Take care!

Hi Wanna,

So nice to meet you and thank you for the reassurance! :hug2:

Yes-I love to read. Lately I have been reading books in my yoga therapy training, which include "Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers" by Robert Sapolsky. This book talks about about stress-related disease and how to cope with it. I am taking my time with this one because it is a pretty long book :P

I enjoy Katherine May's books too. I most recently read "Enchantment: Awakening Wonder in an Anxious World." :pink:

Navigating towards self help books and healing (I guess that is kind of the genre) sounds good. Reading is a great way to channel new impressions into our minds and shift our mentality. I myself mostly read cheesy romantic novels, I am very open about that. But I also enjoy books about societal issues from time to time. I read "Algospeak" by Adam Aleksic some time ago, which was about how the internet influences our way to use words and form sentences. The book wasn't too long, but learned a lot!.

"Algospeak" sounds interesting! I am definitely a lifelong learner, so I will add that to my list. Thanks! :blush5:

Oh I really recommend it! Language is a constantly shifting process, but due to the internet and moderation on social platforms, there's an intense global linguistic evolution. I think Aleksic summarizes it very well.
