New here - looking for support

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

It means a lot to me to find a place for support for sexual abuse. I recently uncovered memories from my childhood that include assault by family members. I have set a boundary with my immediate family for now as I don’t know how to begin to both address this with them and hopefully heal from this trauma.
One thing I have found very confusing is that the people pleasant behavior I learned to keep me safe as a child is making me constantly recenter the focus on me now instead of them and their needs.

I am currently working with a somatic therapist, a trauma therapist, and getting LENS treatment. Any advice on additional resources, treatment options, and how to begin to heal myself and perhaps how to address this with my family members that were involved is greatly appreciated.

I am available to support others as well. Please reach out if this resonates with your experience.

Welcome to AS, @Ziggy18. ❤️ I'm glad you found your way here. I'm so sorry for what you've experienced, though. It was cruel and unfair...and not your fault at all. I'm so proud of you for working on healing now. It sounds like you're doing all of the right things. Take your time exploring the site. You're not alone! I wish you all the best on your healing journey. :)

Hi Ziggy and welcome.

I am very sorry for what you've endured as a child and the struggles you are currently facing. It was unfair and undeserved. I am sorry you were betrayed by those family members you should have been able to trust. You have found a very supportive community, tho, with many understanding and kind members. You are not alone.

You might want to check out our Therapy Discussion for for more treatment ideas. There is at least one informative one on EMDR and I'm sure more that members have discussed. Gathering information is always a good step to start with.

I am glad that you have found us and decided to reach out. It's not always an easy decision, but many here, including myself, are grateful to have found such a supportive community. I hope you find the kindness here that you so deserve.

Wishing you the best on every step forward.

Thank you Finchy. I appreciate the welcome and advice. I just had an EMDR session today. Honestly open to anything that will support my healing.
