Hey, I'm new here

Recommended Posts

Morning all

I've been searching for a survivors group for a short while and have stumbled across this. The thought of talking to people who have also experienced what I have brings me a sense of comfort so here it goes...

I don't know how unusual this is, but I reexperienced my SA during EMDR therapy. My brain had blocked it out. Always had a feeling this may of happened but I had totally forgotten. Now I remember and it is like it has just happened. Something that happened 10 years ago is now a part of me and it feels so strange.

Anyway. I triggered yesterday and thought now is the best time to make new friends. Thank you for listening to my morning rant as I get ready for work!

Dear leannec88

Welcome to After Silence. I am sorry to hear of the trauma you have been through!

Being here has helped me so much. Everyone is so caring and supportive here. I am proud of you for reaching out. I know that is hard to do. I also know that you will find that needed compassion and support here within our community. Know we are here for you and we will listen whenever you would like to lean on us.

Take care and please do not hesitate to ask for any help if you ever need it.

@leanneC88 Welcome to AS.  I am glad that you found yourself here.  EMDR does have a tendency to allow repressed traumas to come to the surface.  That is very similar to what happened with me.  In the early stages of remembering those traumatic experiences it can feel very intense, but it does get better.  AS has definitely been one of the resources that helped me cope with it all.  You will find that there are many other people here that will be able to relate to your experiences.  You are definitely not alone.

Hi leanne and welcome.

I am very sorry for all you've been thru and learning those feelings were accurate and these were memories you actually suppressed. Memory suppression is fairly common, as the mind can do some confusing and complicated things in order to self-protect. Now that those memories are releasing, yes, it is understandable that it would feel like it just happened. You were not able to process the trauma in those 10 years, so it will unfortunately come back like that.

You have found a supportive community with many understanding members. You, your experiences and your struggles are all validated here. We are glad that you have found us.

Feel free to look about the community and interact when you feel ready. We will be here for you, when you are.

Best wishes to you on many forward steps as you walk down this path of healing.

Mary
