Writer's Envy

Whilst reading other poet's pieces, My amazement never ceases: The talent that these poets possess, Their ability to write with such finesse. The vocubulary so well-versed, Making my own seem simple at worst. Their stanzas are full of imagery and wit. In comparison - mine seem so unfit. Just how do they know so many terms? Words like 'ethereal' and 'pachyderm': I need a dictionary just to read, Before the commenting can proceed. And in an attempt for mine to excel, My next writes put my mind thr

Wishing Upon A Moon

The moon is spilling through the window pane Its tranquil beauty capturing my eyes Illuminating the navy blue skies Revealing silhouettes the world contains Moonlight and shadows spill across my face While an orchestra outside fills my ears Crickets' lullabies are heard loud and clear Their peaceful music filling empty space As the moon is spilling through the window I gaze upon its surface dimly lit Wond'ring if a loved one also sees it Such a thought sets my heart and smile aglow The moon is s

Unspeakable

Thoughts and feelings both concealed Teeth and tongue frequently reunited The alternative being excess chaos Spoken and implicit ammo uninvited Burning fuel beneath camouflage invisible Verbal bullets wittingly choked back Battling the urge to ignite a hostile war In spite of your unprovoked attack Your open and closed hostilities rebuffed I suffer inner conflict out of sheer respect In favor of peaceful conditions for others Who never detect my mental straitjacket For the sanity of others my ow

Unpretty

Treasure Hunt

In the land of opportunity I awoke And I searched for the right place I'm not too far from the simple folk Whose transportation likes to graze But my surroundings aren't sedate Indeed your head would be spinning To get to me you'd have a while to wait 20 minutes, an hour - I'm not kidding Streetlights made of kisses inviting You to the entry of a fantastic dream Where everything is so exciting And you'll find some common themes I'm happy where I am right here A chocolate heaven so beguiling Enor

Trashy Tricks, Sweet Treats

Happy Halloween: Is it trick or treat? Candy is reserved for those who are sweet. If your costume barely covers your rear, The trick is - you get no treats my dear. A trick or a treat? Depends what you wear, So rebellious teenage girls: Beware.

The Sky

The sky is blue during the day, on bouncy clouds birdies play. Then the yellow sun turns white, and the blue sky turns black at night. Sometimes clouds get sad and cry, And their tears fall down from the sky. Note: Prompt was to write about the sky in a poem, in the eyes of a 7 year old you. This is pretty much how I figure I'd have regarded the sky when I was 7.

The Purest Prayer

My baby sister, she's my love She's the butter to my bread, But she has a learning disabiliity That she shall never be rid of Though she's phsyically mature, Her mind is somewhat behind. Yet a sweeter soul you'll not find, Of that statement I'm quite sure And on one horrid fateful night, The police came to our house. They took away her dad - mom's spouse, And this gave her quite a fright He did not return from work next day, And naturally she wondered why, "Daddy is sick" was our reply - So she

The Nature Of Poetry

Roses are red - they're also blue, Rhyme or free verse, poetry's art - It's a shame to pick them apart. Roses are red - they're also blue, They're beautiful in any hue, Seen by the eyes, felt by the heart, Roses are red - they're also blue, Rhyme or free verse, poetry's art.

The Illusion Of Perception

Sun rises and falls Day after day Moon follows Night after night In a never-ending game Of tag With each passing second Minute, hour Our lives become a bore Schedules create Predictability That is seemingly Endless And we complain Nothing changes But if we stop Just for a moment If we look back From when we started And we compare it To where we are now There are but few Similarities The differences become Nearly overwhelming From our attitudes To our relationships And our dwellings It's startlin

The Death Of Rainbows

Pop! Bang! Sizzle! I startle at the noise That sounds like rice krispies - amped on steroids. Did a car backfire? A gun fight break out? What in the world could such noise be about? Once at the window, my eyes search the night Sizzle! Pop-Pop! I'm greeted by a sight: A man-made evening art show in the sky Red, white and blue for the fourth of July. Pop! Bang! Bang! I watch colors as they burst. Rainbows are destroyed - their remnants dispersed. I mourn their dying ashes as they fall, Camouflaged

Surviving Victimization

We've struggled and said "no" Made our boundaries crystal clear We've given in submissively To alleviate without consent our fear We no longer know who we are Our identities have gone astray We struggle with our memories Willfully wishing them away A sudden touch can trigger us We never forget the violations We're startled by sudden sounds Sometimes into dissociation We're not sure how to trust We generally feel insecure We're always second-guessing Of our own decisions we're unsure We battle wi

Summer Withdrawal

Buds are not quite flowers Breezes try to break the ice Impatiently counting days, hours Until the air is full of spiciness My skin yearns for summers heat How it's missed sun's warm embrace My toes crave hot sand 'neath my feet Cooled by waves that move with grace And if summer could kindly forget the bees, Leave behind the spiders too, and I'll be pleased.

Summer

Wind's slow, languid breath lifts hair from my face Calming my heated skin from sun's long kiss Freshly cut grass, and fragrant flowered trees These delicious aromas fill my nose Ivy-laced lattice, vibrant hues of blooms Bronzed, sandy beaches pleasing to the eyes Children's amused laughter, birds cheery tunes Water being splashed - music to my ears Lovely sights and sounds, perfumed silky air Senses come alive: first taste of summer
