Thank you very much...!!!

One question, when it says helpline, does that mean it's confidential and you can talk? Or is it not that!!??

Thanks

Jade :tealribbon:

I would have thought so, not completely sure though, I know I've phoned a helpline once before when I wanted some info, but I'd be surprised if they don't offer talking seervices

Best Wishes

Link to post

Yes Rape Crisis are confidential and you can talk to somebody that will be extremely helpful. They will give you advice and send you out a Rape Crisis pack that helps you with hints and tips of how to get through your trauma and coping with nightmares / panic attacks.

After I reported the attack on me, they were brought in and contacted me regularly for several months to make sure I was okay and have told me if ever I find a difficult patch to ring them back.

It couldn't do any harm to give them a quick ring; they are not always available as they are a charitable organization and they are struggling for funds, but they are always willing to try and help out. Check on times and also if they are busy, you may get an answerphone. If you don't feel like giving any details, just explain that and could they possibly talk to you for a short while.

There is a very useful site called Headroom. This is the link to it:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/headroom/whatisheadroom/

There is some very useful help and information on this site which is part of the BBC and Open University, and it is all to do with all kinds of ways to deal with our emotions. Take care, I haven't read or seen anything too triggering myself, but view it with caution just in case.

There are some useful print-out sheets and video interviews on there, etc.

I've found Ruby Wax's interviews that you can watch very helpful. Also there are a list of things like depression, agerophobia, etc.

NHS talking therapies

Talking therapies, or psychological therapies, are effective and confidential treatments delivered by fully trained and accredited NHS practitioners. They can help with common mental health problems like stress, anxiety and depression.

You can access talking therapies on the NHS.

A GP can refer you, or you can refer yourself directly to an NHS psychological therapies service (IAPT) without a referral from a GP.

NHS talking therapies services are also known as Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services. These services are still open and accessible during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

If you live in England and are aged 18 or over, you can access NHS psychological therapies (IAPT) services.

  • talking therapies, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), counselling, other therapies, and guided self-help for -
  • depression
  • generalized anxiety
  • social anxiety
  • panic and agoraphobia
  • other phobias
  • obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • body dysmorphic disorder

You can self refer here

https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-psychological-therapies-service/

But if you need urgent support in England follow this link

https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/mental-health/find-an-urgent-mental-health-helpline

Wales, Ireland and Scotland do not have this service

The Scottish Association for Mental Health website has an email where you can enquire about local services,

You can also enquire with your local Womens Aid (Cyfannol in Wales) who can offer support, peer support and counselling if you have experienced sexual assault or childhood sexual abuse.

I'm having trauma CBT through NHS Talking Therapies at the moment and have the most incredible T. It was almost a 6 month wait, but I'm getting 12 weeks now for free and it's the best experience I've ever had with therapy. I think it is quite hit and miss with NHS therapists, I had standard CBT through them in 2020, when I thought I was just suffering from anxiety, but I didn't build a relationship with the therapist at all. Some of the exercises we did were helpful but overall it felt quite superficial.

Local Mind centres also offer free therapy, including ACT and other talking therapies. They even have a Rainbow Mind service in London, which I accessed ACT through with very little wait. That helped tide me over til the NHS stuff came through! You don't have to disclose anything about your gender or sexuality to access it but all the therapists are queer. It's a great service.
