Hello all,

My name is Amber. This is a new and different concept for me; only a
small handful of people know my story, but I felt like sharing it with
others who may have been through similar situations would possibly help.
(:

I am in the military, active duty. Just a "baby" in the military world,
however; I will hit my 2-year mark time-in-service this July. Anyway,
while I was in my tech school training (right after basic training), on
St. Patrick's Day of 2012, I was raped. Seeing as St. Patrick's Day will
be here in one week, this one-year "anniversary" of the assault is no
doubt kicking in an overdrive with the nightmares and emotional trauma.

I usually am able to conceal my thoughts and feelings from everyone. I
put on that fake smile at work and when I'm around family and friends
and pretend I'm okay, but when I'm alone, those feelings of guilt,
shame, blame and self-hatred make themselves very well known. I have my
good days when I can block out most of the feelings, but sadly those are
few. I am currently in therapy and was diagnosed with PTSD. I didn't
share this story with anyone until September 2012 (I've been trying to
deal with everything myself between the time of the incident up until I
shared with someone...but it didn't go over so well), so I am still in
the beginning stages of healing.

Anyway, that's my short version of the story and I just wanted to introduce myself a little. (:

Hello Amber,

I am so very sorry for what you have been through. I am glad that you have a therapist and are begining to deal with what has happened to you. I wish to say thank you for your service if that is OK! I am glad that you are dealing with your assault and ptsd now rather than waiting a long time and going it alone. I was in the military when I was 19 raped while on my first overseas assignment. I waited many years to deal with. You are brave and courageous to reach out here and gain support for your healing journey. I wish you all the support you need and so deserve. Take gentle care!
