Tamilynn
My name is (obviously) Tamilynn and I'm 35, from Canada. I was sexually abused by my father from age 9-17 and I kept it hidden until about six months ago. I am currently going through a divorce that's almost final and I don't have kids. My ex was emotionally abusive and controlling and it took me almost 15 years to leave him, but I did it. I write, do some graphic design and I like sports and music. I am planning on going to university in January to study Psychology and hopefully in time become a psychologist and help people that have been hurt in different ways. I have a burning desire even in the midst of my own pain to reach out and help others, I think it's what keeps me going. I already like this place. It seems warm and welcoming and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. Link to post
crushedflower
Welcome to AS, Tami! I am sorry life has treated you so harshly. I know you will find support here. I am a psych/art double major. I want to be an art T. Edited August 21, 2010 by crushedflower Link to post
Tamilynn
Thanks for the welcome. I've been considering a double major also, but I have severe anxiety related issues and I don't want to overdo it. I have time to decide anyway. Link to post
Marce
You have found a place where you can share your feeling and receive comfort and loving support. I too am going through a divorce, after 32 years. Recovering the memory of my sexual abuse from 50 years ago -- using therapy to move from victim to survivor -- I saw how unfullfilling my marriage was. I have a sense of grief that I failed, but know it is the best for both of us. Glad you found us, Marce Link to post
Tamilynn
Thanks for sharing. I've just joined but already feel like I'm not so alone. I can relate to that sense of grief, that feeling of failure. But I really did try, I spent almost 15 years with a man that clearly didn't love me. So all I (and anyone else) can do is learn from it and move on. Thanks again for the welcome. Link to post
