Hi Everyone,

I'm Marg and I was sexually abused as a child. I'm 60 now and still dealing with the effects. Actually, I was doing pretty well and thought I had most of my issues dealt with. Then over the past month the whole Catholic church thing has been in the news and I found myself getting furious. I was so ticked at the church for minimizing the abuse, not standing up for the victims and passing the blame.

As the weeks have gone on my anger has increased to the point where I realized I needed to take a look at myself to see if I could figure out why I was getting so darn mad. It took a bit of contemplation and some journalling, but eventually I discovered that I was mad because they were acting just like my Dad did when I tried to tell him about the abuse I experienced. I was 10 or 11 and I finally got up the courage to tell. Well, the whole thing was minimized and I certainly was not protected. In fact, I was left to fend for myself. Then I realized that I still have anger issues at my Dad over this and I knew I needed to take another go at dealing with the abuse. I think I've dealt with the actual abuse fairly well, actually, but I sure haven't dealt with my issues around my father.

Anyway, I hope to get some support here as I go through this process and also hope to be able to offer support to others who are on this journey as well. It's good to find a place like this where it is safe to vent and to discuss how we feel.
