New And Unsure

Hi all, I'm Liz.

I suppose the reason I say I'm new and unsure is, unlike most of the people on here, I'm not sure if I've been sexually abused. Meaning, I don't remember. I'm almost positive that something inappropriate happened to me as a child, but the details are fuzzy and they come and go. Nothing has pieced itself together enough for me to make sense of why I am the way that I am in terms of the problems I have with sexual relationships as an adult.

So I guess the reason I've come here is to try to figure out if my experiences are typical of someone who's been sexually abused in some way. I know this is no substitute for therapy, but the last time I tried speaking with someone about this topic, it's as if I drew a blank and couldn't find the words to explain what I thought happened to me. I ended up feeling like a crazy person, so I just let it go. I still try to deal with it as little as possible (because every time I think about it in any detail I end up crumpled on the floor in a puddle of tears), but I feel like I've been living in denial too long now. I just hope one day I can figure out what exactly I'm in denial of.

Welcome. I'm sorry for what's brought you here, but I'm glad that you've found this place.

Personally, I think that if you feel like something happened, then something probably happened. That seed of doubt is small at first, but it gets bigger and more distracting. I wondered for years before I really accepted it. I think you'll find that you're not alone in that respect.
