Hi all,

I'm here because of my girlfriend, who's been abused once as a child. She's still suffering from it, and I came here to get some help on what I should and could do for her.

Hi Arttu,

A number of things you can suggest to your girlfriend , but only she can really do something about it. E.g. It may be useful for your girlfirend to join this site and speak to the many others who have been where she is right now. There are lots of helping books on the subject (a number are listed on the help pages of this site, a key book is 'The Courage to Heal', I can't remember the author name right now and so maybe someone else here can help me out), or there is Therapy (lots of voluntary organisations in the U.K, if she asks at her local doctors surgey then they should be able to point her in the right direction, she doesnt have to tell them why she needs this)...but like I say only your girlfriend can do these things..

On your part, key is listening, accepting (none judement), loving and being there when she needs you. You too may need support and the things I suggest above may help you also..

Wishing you both much luck with this..

Brian

Your friend is lucky to have someone like you in her life to listen and take it seriously is a great help to her, I am sure. Welcome, and I hope your friend joins us...I feel pretty safe here, being "anonymous", and not judged here. Hope you and your friend learn and grow and heal together...it's not always "easy" for friends to listen to the trauma, and I think you are so supportive. Peace to you
