Hi! So glad I've found AS

Recommended Posts

So first off: English isn't my first language, and if there are mistakes and if my language gets wobbly, I sincerely apologize.

Hi! I'm a survivour who hadn't known what had happened for 6 years after it did, and after that it took another year to seek professional and medical help. I'm still not completely well, but just accepting my trauma and being able to name it out loud (if to a very small handful of people) feels liberating.

I hope After Silence is a place where I can finally open up and connect with fellow survivours. I don't know of any survivour support groups where I live, so the internet was my only option. Besides, it isn't required to show my face here, which makes sharing less scary.

I'm still struggling, paying attention to myself and my needs is still hard, but I find comfort in different forms of art I enjoy making: writing, sewing (by hand, I've begun it only recently so still a newbie), knitting, making chainmaille jewelry. Also I love playing certain videogames when I can.

Breaking my silence is what I would love to do, and I feel like I'm reaching that point.

Thank you all for being here and making After Silence such a welcome community.

Hello @Eorunia, and welcome to After Silence!!!

Swinging by to say hi and to let you know that I think it's very brave of you to join our community - it's never easy to ask for support but this site truly has been a godsend for me and I am hoping you find exactly what you're looking for, here, and that you're not alone by any means.  Congratulations on being ready to take that next leap - breaking your silence!  That is truly an incredible way to begin this journey that we call healing!!!

By the way - it's okay to not be completely well.  I think many, many of us can relate to that.  It's also okay to not be okay; trauma is not gentle nor is it ever easy to overcome.  It takes a lot of time and patience and although it is difficult and takes many tolls, it's also not impossible.

You've got this. :)

Again, welcome!

Best wishes,
Capulet

Hi there, Eorunia,

Welcome to AfterSilence. I am very sorry you experienced trauma 6 years ago, but know you are not alone. This community is filled with understanding and supportive members and as WannaMoveOn has mentioned, it is very diverse. I think this is something that helps us know, even if we are from different areas and different backgrounds, much of our feelings and struggles are truly relatable. I would never wish trauma on anyone, but it is a comfort to know walk the same path.

It is a big step to reach out to others, so I commend you on that step. Healing isn't easy, but do know we are here for you. Take your time to look around and interact where you are comfortable. I wish you many forward steps on this journey of healing,

Mary

I love making jewelry some chainmaille, but mostly pendants. sewing (mostly machine now, but I hand sew, still, as well) and knitting, too.

i think these hobbies are calming for the overwhelmed mind.
