I thought I was over it

Recommended Posts

It's been a long time, I thought I was finally over all of it. The voices had quieted down for a while, the images stopped. I thought finally this is over. The problem is it's starting to show up in my relationship now and I don't know how to control it and get it to leave me alone. I've talked to my significant other about it which has helped atleast have their support with it but they can only do so much without experiencing it. He helps me deal when I'm suddenly attacked with it again. And promises to keep me safe but how can he keep me safe from memories.

Welcome @Tiredgirl  to After Silence.  I’m sorry for what brought you here but I’m happy you are here reaching out for support.  I'm sorry to hear this is a struggle for you but I'm glad to hear your significant other is supportive.  I hope you grow to trust your significant other more in time.  One thing I can recommend you may want to try is repeating some positive affirmations, such as saying things like "I am safe now".  There are several other things you can try as well and I hope in being here you will find some more information and support that will be to your benefit.  Take your time exploring here and post when you are ready.  If you have any questions feel free to message me.

Hi Tiredgirl,

Welcome to AfterSilence. I am so sorry for the trauma that you have experienced and the struggles you face. You will find tons of support here, as we have many understanding and kind members. You are not alone.

Sadly, trauma does have a way to sneak in and out of your life. Healing to me is finding more good days, than bad. I am glad that you have a supportive partner and he wants to be helpful. It is true he likely doesn't fully understand what abuse can do, but at least he is willing. Try to keep open communication and use grounding techniques when you can. You've had many good days, this is just one of those bumps in the road. Keep faith more better days will come. Wishing you many forward bound steps on your healing journey.

Mary
