I survived, but I only survived

I survived a childhood of mental, physical, and sexual abuse, just as many of you have. And like many may understand, I can say that I only survived. I lost the ability to connect fully to this world and the people in it. I never learned to make friends, even though people seem to like me. I learned that trust was not an option for me when the people I should have been able to trust, were the ones hurting me. I am very thankful that there is a group like this out here. BUT, I wish with everything in me that a group like this did not need to exist. Stay strong fellow survivors, we have survived some of the hardest times anyone can ever imagine, and we will continue to heal and grow..

Welcome to AfterSilence. I am very sorry for all the abuses you endured in your younger years. To say this was absolutely wrong is not only truthful, but sad. It still surprises me how many do understand that betrayed trust. No child should feel anything but loved and protected. I am sorry you are one that did not receive that. Do know that you will find much support, understanding, and validation here. You are not alone.

It isn't easy to heal, but I think we all have potential to take steps in that direction. Everyone here reached out, which is a step...a big step. Allowing yourself to give and accept kindness and understanding is not easy. We have tho, and more steps are possible. I believe this.

Take your time to look around. Feel free to post or interact when you are comfortable. Wishing you the best as you make more steps forward on this path of healing.

I'm sorry for what you have been through.  I find it is easier to talk on forums then out loud.  Being here has helped me so much, even from the first time I ever posted.  It is still helping me - I have so much support here and I know you will, as well.  Here at AS, we are like a big family and our members are kind and non-judgemental.

I found this site after listening to lady Gaga Til it Happens to you. I expirienced the same , sexually, mentally and physically abused as a child. It started when I was 12. Now I am 26 years old , It started to hit me when I am 24 .I started to view things differently and realizing the wrong things, painful expirience I kept to my self and I have trust issue with others, I am afraid to share my story. Haven't been able to make friends as I don't know if I can trust them as those people you trusted before are the one who cause your pain. I know I am not alone I just don't know how I find those people who can understand this feeling of pain and suffering from that expirience that shouldn't ever ever exist but sadly it does .
