Hello! I am new here, seeking support/ to connect with others who may be at a similar place in their healing journey. I’ve experienced different forms of abuse, both by people I knew & a stranger. I was diagnosed with PTSD about 7 years ago, which now seems to be evolving into a deep depression. I am newly back in therapy, as Ive recently been struggling to feel supported by family, and have expressed frustrations through self harm. I want to work THRU these things but unfortunately my entire family shuts down as soon as the conversation gets heavy. I feel like I have no one to “fight it out” with me, to let me just get it all out, regardless of how it sounds, and to not be scared off. I thought maybe an online support group is what I need. Heres hoping!

Hi @SilentAudacity

Welcome to AS.  I'm sorry for the abuse in your life that has brought you to this site, but I'm glad you are here.  This site is a safe space and no one will judge you here.  We are all here to support each other.  You are welcome to post on the forums whenever you feel comfortable.  I'm sorry that your family is not supportive, but I'm glad you starting back in therapy.  Hopefully that will help.  Remember that you are stronger and braver than you believe and that you can and will heal.  I hope you find this site to be as helpful as I do.

Hi @snmls! Thank you for the warm welcome!

I always find that there is more room out, than in, so I try to be very transparent about what Im feeling/ going through & unfortunately most of the people in my life find that to be “too intense”, so I’ve been internalizing. It feels good to have a space to get it all out, and Im hoping to make some connections with others who understand. Healing isn't linear & I know that beyond a shadow of a doubt, but its still felt discouraging to “need” help again. *this too shall pass*

I hope you are doing well, and thanks again!

I am SO, very guilty of this thing called internalizing!  I have many years' experience. :)  I have recently returned to therapy, as well - to work on this, and on being able to more frequently step out of my comfort zone/bubble that I've gotten a little bit TOO comfortable sitting within.  In a couple of weeks, I'm also starting school again for the first time in 20 years, so this is a HUGE step in the right direction for me...as going to therapy was for you - good for you on taking that leap!

I agree, though, it's so much better out than it is in.  And this space, I hope, will help to motivate you to explore various ways of expression.  You're safe here, and among friends.  Welcome to After Silence.  I'm glad you're liking what you see here so far.

Safe hugs, if okay!

- Cap

Hi and welcome to AS!

I’m sorry you don’t have more support to talk and work things through, my family is similar in not going near anything heavy . I hope you’ll find this is a safe place to share, vent, discuss and be heard.
