New to the group-looking to talk.

Recommended Posts

Hi,  I am new to the group.  When I was a young child my grandfather sexually abused me until he died.  I spent many years not recalling it at all.  And I leRned how to dissociate.  Later in life rape became a recurring theme on my life. I'm sure I put myself in daNgerous situations. I  bipolar in remission now but when I was manic my judgement was way off.  During one I remembered what my grandfather did,  up until the point when I would dissociate. I have been in therapy since I was 6 and I finally seem to be getting somewhere.  My life has been ruled by what he did and I don't want it to have any hold over me anymore..  Which means remembering to deal with it,  it also means joining those two parts of me.  It's starting to come back in my nightmares.  I was just wondering if anyone knew how to remember,  or has dealt with it the way I had?? I guess I just need someone to talk to that has been there...

Hi, @ASnow, welcome to AS.  This is a hugely supportive place to be and while I am so sorry to hear of the circumstances under which you've sought us out, I'm hopeful that being here will bring you peace, comfort and healing.

You are not alone!!!  So many folks here can relate to what you are going through, myself included.  It may take a little while but I'm confident you'll feel a little isolated in no time.

Again, welcome!  Looking forward to getting to know you.

Best wishes,
Capulet

Hi @ASnow welcome. I'm so sorry about what your grandfather did to you. Dissociation has helped me, too. Can also relate to not remembering for many years things that happened and wanting to remember. Some things have come back but not all. I'm glad you found this site because you'll find that you're not alone, and there is so much support and kindness here. Best wishes to you!

Welcome @ASnow. I'm sorry you were hurt that way and I am glad to meet you in the path of healing. My own abuses were entirely hidden from me through dissociation as well, and decades later I began to know.  :notalone: I think it will help you to be part of this supportive community.

Hi @ASnow

Welcome to AS. I’m sorry for what brings you here but you’ve found a supportive place. I think many here can relate to your questions about memory and dissociation, you are not alone with these experiences. I  would encourage you to have a look around the site as there are a few threads going about recovering memories and dissociation that might offer some insights. I wish you the best in your healing.
