Hi everyone, finally facing up....

Hi everyone, I'm new to this, new to sharing, new to facing up to what happened... For years I told myself that I was lucky, that it could have been worse, but in the last weeks for some reason my memories are haunting me more and more and I figured this might be a way for me to get past it in a way... Anyway, hi :-)

Haven't quite figured out the site yet so I'm just starting with 'hi'...

Welcome to the forums. Glad to hear you found your way here. We all tell ourselves for some time we are lucky and it could have been worse. Its a common way to cope with all after the abuse. I hope you feel comfortable here and found a place to share.

Welcome Ayla. I am sorry that you have a reason to be here, but I am glad you found AS and came by to say hi. That is a good place to start :) Just have a look around. There are plenty of different sections, and under each you will find lots and lots of posts from people that you can reply to, or you can of course make your own post. It seems like a lot to get your head around at the start, but after a while you get used to it, and you figure out what speaks to you most from this forum. Either way, we will support you on your journey. :notalone:

Welcome Ayla, I am sorry for what has brought you here but am glad you found us. I hope you find it to be a safe, welcoming community like I have. As someone who has, and still does at times, tell myself that "it could have been worse" I think it is single handedly one of the worst things to hear or say to yourself. Things can always be worse but that does not mean it isn't already difficult to deal with or that we don't have a right to be upset about it. Hope we can all support you on your journey

Hi Ayla,

Welcome to AS. I am sorry about the trauma you experienced, but you have found a very supportive site. With trauma, there is no gauge.  I say that knowing I spoke those very words when I got here. You've been hurt and you deserve to heal just like anyone else who has been hurt and deserve to heal. Reaching out is a good step. I wish you many good steps on this journey of healing.

That's actually a nice thing to hear, thank you. I guess I just struggle with the fact that it took me this long to admit it and own up to it...

Thank you, all of you :-) It helps to read what you all say, it helps to make me feel less like a fraud. I guess because it happened years ago and I've been fine and never tried to really think of it, I guess that made me think I was fine and like nothing happened or at least like what happened didn't have any effect on me...looks like I was wrong.

Anyway, thank you!
