blurryface
I am brand new to this group, though I have come across this page in recent years. When I was raped 16 years ago, there were a few yahoo groups, but no true online support system that I found. I am hoping that this will be different. I am high functioning survivor with PTSD. Sometimes I feel like I am putting on a sham, as to others it may seem like I am just a normal person living a normal life. A few years ago I may have felt normal too. But now that I don't go out partying with my friends as much I am forced to sit in my own unhappiness. I think it will get better, but I don't know when. I have an appointment with my therapist (that I stopped going to 2 years ago) next week. I want to get better soon. I just posted something in the Gathering Place forum, and hope you will take a look. Have any connections been made on this site that have lead to local/in-person support groups? Link to post
Valentina
Hi, welcome to the forums. Sorry for what brings you here though! I just started seeking out therapy as well for the first time in ten years after the abuse ended. I don't know what to tell you about local/in-person support groups simply because I don't seek them out. Link to post

Hi blurryface, Welcome to AS. I am very sorry for the trauma that you have suffered, but you have found a very supportive and safe site. The members are kind and understanding. You seem to be making strides to change the struggles that you have been facing, including joining us here, which is wonderful. But just to let you know, this site does run on anonymity, and personal identifiable information should not be placed in posts, therefore it would be difficult for such in-person support groups created from members be difficult to do. You probably could find some good information about actual support groups on Rainn.org. I hope this does not deter you from using online support. I wish you the best in your healing journey. HiddenHeart
Hi, blurryface. Welcome to AS. I don't know what your religious affiliations are, but if there is not a rainn group in your area, there might be a church that has a celebrate recovery grouo - & they sometimes have breakouts for sa recovery? That's the case in my area. I don't know anything about the program other than that it is offered... Link to post
