Saying hello

Recommended Posts

Hi so this is my first time posting on this forum. It's been almost three years since I was raped and even though I've made lots of progress in that time, I still feel so empty and lost. I think a part of me is still struggling with accepting what happened, just having to type "since i was raped" was such a struggle and made me emotional. When I was still in college i was able to see a therapist. but after moving back home, ( where my family does not know what happened) it's been very difficult for me to meet a therapist behind their backs. On the exterior I feel like I seem normal again, but I know I'm not and I know i still have a long road to recovery. I just want to feel "normal" again and was hoping that joining a forum like this would help me with my healing. I hope that in the future I will be able to share my story.

Hi thistooshallpast4, welcome to AS. I am sorry about your rape. It is hard to write out what happened and have those feelings come up. The more we write or talk about it helps, I say giving it a voice. Because all those feeling and emotions are still deep inside of us. Take your time to get to know the site, you aren't alone here.

Patricia

Hi thistooshallpass,

Welcome to AS. I am very sorry for the trauma that you have suffered. What happened to you was wrong and unfair. You have found a very supportive site. I know it's hard to reach out, and sharing your story will be up to you. I've been here for over a year and have only let out bits and pieces. There is never any pressure. I do wish you well as you continue with your healing journey.

Mary

Hello thistooshallpass4, welcome. You are not alone. I'm sorry you experienced abuse. It was not your fault. It was not fair.

This group on-line is a good source of support. There is also a lot of information you can read.

I hear that your family doesn't know. I wonder if you have friends who know and are supportive of you?

It is normal to feel the way you are feeling at present. It is hard to accept, however, you were able to write it here. You are very brave.

Healing is a journey and takes time. Healing is possible. Go at your own pace. It is okay to take care of yourself. What do you do to look after yourself?

May you be well.

Hi Mary,

Thank you for the comforting words. I have struggled to be open because I felt like people could never really understand and would just treat me differently, but I finally feel like I can share without having that feeling. I wish you well on your journey as well.

Hello Minerba,

Thank you so much for reaching out. I do have friends who are aware of what I've been through but unfortunately I am not near them geographically at this time, they have still been supportive over text and phone, but I don't think they've ever really known how to react. They are doing their best and I'm very appreciative of it.

Yes, I'm very glad I made the decision to become a part of this site, I've felt a sense of relief ever since. My journey was constantly centered on keeping myself busy to avoid accepting my reality. Whether it was picking up extra credits so that I could graduate early or forcing myself to join groups in college, I never really had time for myself. I'm finally taking the time to get to know myself again, whether its journaling or sitting with a coloring book or reading.

Again, thank you for your post. Hope you are well.

Hello, thistooshallpass4! Welcome to AS. I think the biggest thing joining here has given me is the knowledge that I am not as alone as I thought I was.
