Notanisland
Hi, I want to introduce myself. I am a 28-year-old female sexual assault survivor. I was assaulted 9 years ago, and recent life experiences have brought up a lot of PTSD somatic symptoms and memories, which are interfering with my career and social life. I want to reach out to other people who have been through this, and I want to listen and read your strategies and coping mechanisms for getting through the rough times. Link to post

somerandomguy1985
Meditation is a really effective tool to possibly gain a bit of control over your symptoms or at the very least clear your mind which can be therapeutic in itself. I won't suggest any specific methodology because there are limitless approaches, books, etc on the subject. I think though that meditation breathing exercises are definitely worthwhile. Also any literature you find which gives techniques for quieting the mind you may find to be worth a read. This skill has gotten me through some rough times in my life when I just needed to shut off all the thoughts in my head for a little while and have a moment of silence away from all the awful thoughts...I like to be in nature more when I'm feeling overwhelmed - I find it helps.
