You shouldn't minimize what happened to you at all! To be perfectly honest, it really doesn't matter what was used - it's the emotional impact abuse like that causes that really takes its toll. The majority of my physical trauma healed many years ago, but it was only this last year that I started to acknowledge and try to process the emotional impact the abuse had on me. This is an amazing place to be able to process and work through how you're feeling. After the forum went down a while back, I kinda freaked out for a while... but then I went back into my shell and tried to block everything out again. Now I'm back because I have quickly come to realize that my shutting down is not working. So here I am... again.
