Blogging Insiders: Copper's Voice

Normally this is Skye's place. But today it felt like I needed to post. I am Copper, I know the rules and do my best to heed them. Time to blog.

I've been thinking about the blog thing for a while now. We are really fortunate to have not one but two excellent therapists. Even so, there's a limit of how much time any given Insider gets to interact with the Outside world. Skye in particular was hurting, really needing a way for her voice to be heard.

So I read the TOS. I read them until my eyes crossed. I dragged Skye and Orange and a few other talkative Insiders and made them read the TOS.

What I got from all that reading is that AS members who are also multiples have to watch what they post. Insiders are not allowed to run rampant across the boards. There are a few specific places where Insiders are allowed to post; the most obvious being the DID discussion thread. Once in a while someone's Insider will post in the Stand-In Therapy thread. Those are the only places I'm thinking of offhand that an Insider can post on the boards.

I am not at all complaining about this. It's got to be a challenge to keep a community like AS together and safe with one person per screen name; the thought of trying to keep track of everyone with Insiders posting at will...yikes. So I get that these rules are a safety thing. That is why we always post the same basic disclaimer at the top of each blog post.

The blog, you see, is our compromise.

After reading the TOS, it looked to me like one of the main reasons that Insiders are not to post is a confusion thing. One username, one person, end of song. Again, I understand and respect that. Also, many folks who are on the DID spectrum are not necessarily co-conscious with all their parts. That could cause all kinds of issues if Insiders were posting willy-nilly.

I'm fortunate that I do enjoy a high level of co-consciousness. Even when I am not fully in control of the body, I usually can at least keep an eye on what it's doing. With that in mind, The blog seemed a place for my Insiders to have a voice.

We do follow the rules of AS here. And along with those, I laid down a few for Insiders who want to blog.

* First, any blogger in my Company who wants to blog must adhere to the Terms of Service.

* Second, they must start any post with a heading stating who is writing and acknowledging that they know the rules and will heed them.

* Third, (though this is technically one of the TOS rules too) bloggers must use TW's as needed. Since the first few lines of the blog are visible to all who view the blog page, the TW's are often in the opening disclaimer. However it gets done, the trigger warnings are always to be posted.

Skye, who is essentially my second-in-command is the curator of the blog. Most of the time, she's the one who posts. The rare times someone else does, she takes responsibility for their actions. Just as I accept responsibility for hers.

So that's where we stand. I had Insiders who needed a voice, and so they blog. All of us love and respect the AS community. We're grateful for the support and care we find here. And those who do most of the blogging are beyond grateful for this one little corner of cyberspace where being an Insider does not change the fact that each of us is a person.

Hi Copper, Sarah here. I have rules from Fallen as well as to what can and cannot be posted. Anyone else Inside who wants to use my blog also has to obey the rules. This is a great way to establish order. Congrats on it working for you and your Company.

Sometimes, I would like to post in some threads where I'm not allowed and it can be frustrating for me but I understand and respect the rules and refrain from posting. Which is why I, too, love blogging. It's our space where I, or Angie or anyone else can write our thoughts, feelings, points of view. Like Skye, I was needing my own 'soapbox' and was happy when you suggested to Fallen that I create my own blog. So thank you :)

We're always reading your and Skye's blog entries even if we don't have words to comment.

Supporting you all!

-Sarah
